The Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure is an annual eight-day journey of fun and discovery for up to 1,500 riders of all ages.

It is the perfect event for me to start my biking journey with.  GOBA is an annual event that explores a different section of Ohio each year.  You bike from town to town and you setup camp at local high schools along the way.  The GOBA team transports all of your belongings so you aren’t having to carry them on your bike during the day.

During the course of the week you can ride as few as 120 miles or up to 400 miles.  It will be the perfect ride to start with not knowing exactly what my capabilities are yet.  My hope is to complete the 400 miles, but it is nice to have the option to bike less if that makes sense.

Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, is more than just a bike ride, it is an epic eight-day rolling festival of bicycles, music, food, camaraderie, and community. It is the oldest, largest, and longest multi-day bicycle touring event in the world.

Over the course of the 8 days we will be biking a total of 468 miles with one 105 miles day mxed in.  Like GOBA all of my gear will be transported from town to town by bus and I won’t have to carry it.  However, 468 miles in one week will certainly be a challenge!

Pittsburgh to Washington DC along the GAP – Great Allegheny Passage and C/O trail.  These 2 trails are converted railroad routes that provide a canopy of trees with no cars as you travel from Pittsburgh to Washington DC.  It is about 330 miles.

I have done this before, but I stayed in B&B’s and hotels when I have done it previously.  This trip I will be camping and carrying all of my stuff (tent, sleeping bag etc.) with me on the bike.

I am most excited for this trip as my 19 year old son, Logan, will be joining me.  Logan has never done anything like this before, but is ready for a new experience.  I very much look forward to completing my journey of 1000 plus miles with Logan.
